Last week, ICON Aircraft executives announced they are setting up a manufacturing facility in Tijuana, Baja California for the production of the complete composite airframe for the ICON A5 light sport aircraft. ICON expects the facility to be complete early 2017. ICON’s Tijuana facility will deliver composite structures to their California facility for final assembly and flight test.
To meet the demand, ICON is initiating serial production and has selected Tijuana as a site for composite production because of its established industrial infrastructure, skilled labor force, and proximity to ICON’s aircraft assembly facility in California.
With an investment of over $150 million dollars, and a workforce over 1,000 people, ICON is making a significant investment in Tijuana that will benefit the city and the country.
