De Minimis Exemption Phased Out

As of May 2, 2025, imports from China, Hong Kong, and Macau no longer qualify for the $800 de minimis exemption, meaning duties now apply to low-value shipments from those regions.

On July 4, 2025, President Trump signed the Big Beautiful Bill into law. Among its many trade and tax reforms, the law includes a full repeal of the de minimis exemption for all other countries beginning July 1, 2027.

Businesses relying on duty-free imports under $800 should prepare now for these sweeping changes, which may significantly affect sourcing, pricing, and logistics strategies.
